Diocletian Palace Hours: Cellars and Seasonal Access

Diocletian Palace hours depend on the area you want to enter. Use the dated winter cellar calendar for an interior visit, then arrange the surrounding palace walk around it.

Diocletian Palace hours depend on the space

Diocletian Palace hours are not a single timetable for everything inside the walls. The palace is an inhabited part of Split, with public streets alongside individually managed attractions. A walk through its lanes is free, while the cellars, cathedral and Jupiter's Temple are separate visits. Start by deciding which interior matters to you, then use that attraction's timetable to anchor your day.

For the cellars, the published winter calendar runs from 1 November 2026 to 28 March 2027. Within that season the regular hours are 09:00 to 17:00, with last admission at 16:30 and dated closures listed below. Those hours belong to the substructures, rather than every gate, church or street in the palace district. Read the cellar tickets guide for the paid visit and the architecture guide for the wider setting.

Winter calendar: 1 November 2026 to 28 March 2027

The City Museum's cellar calendar for this winter season gives daily opening from 09:00 to 17:00 and last admission at 16:30. The cellars do not have a regular Monday closure in this schedule. If Monday is the day available for your visit, use the dated exceptions rather than borrowing the opening pattern of another museum building.

During the season from 1 November 2026 to 28 March 2027, the cellars are closed on 18 November 2026, 25 and 26 December 2026, 1 January 2027, 6 January 2027 and 28 March 2027. The final date of the published season is itself a closure day. Keep those exceptions with the winter dates when making plans, especially for a visit around the end of December or the change of year.

For a date outside that winter window, obtain the cellar timetable for your travel period. A seasonal calendar is useful because it gives a specific opening and last-entry framework; extending it into another season would change the basis of your plan. The seasonal visit guide helps connect the indoor visit with time spent outdoors in the palace district.

Admission and separately managed areas

Last admission is the deadline to enter, so choose an arrival that leaves room for your visit before closing. The cellar substructures supported the imperial apartments and preserve a corresponding ground plan. Their side exhibition rooms are distinct from the central passage with souvenir stalls. Walking through the palace towards the Peristyle and making a paid visit to the exhibition spaces are different activities.

The Papalić Palace museum has a different winter schedule: Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 to 18:00, closed on Mondays and national observance days in the same 2026 to 2027 winter plan. Use that distinction to identify the correct attraction when reading a museum calendar. The Papalić timetable should not replace the cellar hours or the cellar closure list.

The cathedral is also an active place of worship. Arrange a tourist visit using its visitor information, separately from any service you might attend. Cathedral, tower and temple visits need their own planning rather than the cellar timetable. Our cathedral guide explains how those buildings relate to the former imperial mausoleum and the palace complex.

Planning the route with a ticket and audio guide

The cellar ticket with digital audio guide starts at the Brass Gate, Obala Hrvatskog narodnog preporoda 22. Admission to the substructures is included, together with a digital guide to Split valid for three days. The audio languages are English, Spanish and French. The listed product duration is two hours; the three-day audio validity is a separate feature. Bring your own headphones for this experience, which has no live guide.

From the Riva, the southern approach leads through Porta Aenea into the substructures towards the Peristyle. The cellars can also be approached from the Peristyle by stairs. Choose the approach that fits your starting point and the entrance information for your ticket. The palace gate guide places the southern entrance in relation to the other sides of the district. Keep the named ticket starting point handy rather than treating any palace gate as the same entrance.
